TalentoHC is partnered with a well-known local construction company in Miami, FL seeking a Project Accountant to join their accounting team reporting to the Controller.

The Project Accountant is essential in overseeing and reporting on the financial health of construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a background in construction accounting, as their primary duties include supporting project teams with contract adjustments, ensuring compliance, handling payments, preparing reports, and managing various tasks related to their designated construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting functions for assigned construction projects.
  • Provide support to project teams with inquiries or requirements related to accounting.
  • Manage invoices, payments, and compliance matters for designated projects.
  • Work closely with the construction project manager to create detailed, cost-effective project forecasts.
  • Process vendor invoices and subcontractor payments promptly and accurately.
  • Safeguard confidential information to maintain the organization's integrity.
  • Monitor vendor accounts to ensure timely payments.
  • Promote a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Address inquiries from both the Project Team and Executive Management Team.
  • Process and code invoices and subcontractor pay applications in a paperless system, routing them to the appropriate personnel for approval and uploading approved transactions to the accounting software.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure timely receipt, routing, and approval of invoices, ensuring all transactions are processed within the correct accounting period.
  • Follow up on outstanding vendor compliance issues to ensure timely completion.
  • Prepare weekly check runs and subcontractor payment packages, maintaining a daily check log for assigned projects.
  • Ensure proper vendor and subcontractor payments are made when owner payments are received.
  • Communicate with subcontractors to obtain necessary documents for payment processing, such as insurance requirements, waivers, and billing procedures.
  • Track Notices to Owners (NTOs) and ensure proper lien releases are obtained upon payment.
  • Reconcile vendor accounts by verifying monthly statements and related transactions.
  • Correspond with subcontractors and vendors, addressing inquiries as needed.
  • Handle subcontractors change orders and monthly budget updates.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Executives on all aspects of project accounting.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to develop detailed, cost-effective forecasts for monthly Cost to Complete meetings.
  • Report any financial risks or budget discrepancies to management for further review.
  • Assist the Project Manager in preparing and submitting payment applications to owners.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in construction accounting is required.
  • Strong understanding of construction cost accounting and related financial processes.
  • Familiarity with ERP software (preferably Acumatica).
  • Experience in the construction industry.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with intermediate Excel skills preferred, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
  • Experience with paperless environment software, such as Timberscan, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of AIA format billing procedures.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites, as necessary.
